Cell C appoints new Chief HR officer

Cell C has appointed Juba Mashaba as the operator's Chief Human Resources Officer as of 1 June 2019 as the company continues to implement a new transformation initiative.

The company has issued a statement confirming the appointment and said Mashaba brings almost 30 years of experience in industrial relations and HR to the role.

"Mashaba has gained experience across many HR areas, having worked for both South African and global leading brands. He joins Cell C from Aveng where he served as an Executive Director and Director of HR since 2007. Before that, he was Head of Human Resources at both Arcelor-Mittal (South Africa) and Simba (Pty) Ltd, a division of PepsiCo International," states Cell C.

Mashaba holds a BA (Law) and LLB degrees from the University of Swaziland. He also completed a management advancement programme (MAP) at Wits Business School and a Human Resources Executive programme at the University of Michigan Business School.

Cell C chief executive officer Douglas Craigie Stevenson said, "Juba's experience will undoubtedly strengthen our renewed focus on people management. I am confident that he will be an excellent addition to our leadership team."

Mashaba's appointment comes as part of a new transformation initiative at Cell C, which the company claims is aimed at creating an environment of employee empowerment and business conversion.

He steps into the role formerly held by Juliet Mhango, who has been appointed Chief Human Capital Development and Transformation Officer to spearhead the new division dedicated to transformation and people development.

"Juliet will lead our transformation programme with the focus on B-BBEE, diversity and inclusion, corporate sustainability including all empowerment elements," Craigie Stevenson continued.

"This new role lends itself to her vast experience and passion for transformation and people development. I am confident that she will excel in this position," he added.
