Nigerian varsities get free Wi-Fi

Nigerian 4G Network operator Cyberspace Network has announced the offer of free Wi-Fi to local universities as part of its recently launched corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

As reported by Vanguard news, the free Wi-Fi facility, known as Surfwella, has been launched and will be made available to tertiary education institutions across the country.

Surfwella's chief marketing officer, Olusola Bankole, says the free Wi-Fi will be launched first in the University of Abuja before going round to other universities.

Bankole notes that the service will be on "no payment, no subscription, no data purchase, and no need for modems basis."

He says the company plans to roll the solution out at Lagos State University (LASU) in the next few weeks, which will be followed by College of Agric, Lafiaji and University of Lagos (Unilag).

Bankole says Surfwella is doing this as a way to give back to society, adding, "It's our own form of corporate social responsibility. It is all about empowering the students to be globally competitive, and access to free Internet is the best way to empower the next generation."
