Zim’s TelOne unleashes better broadband offering

Zimbabwe’s sole fixed line operator, TelOne, last week launched a Symmetrical High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line (SHDSL) broadband service that allows for equal upload and download data speeds.

The new product is an improvement from the Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) service that the organisation has been offering since 2011, as ADSL offers slower upload speeds as compared to download speeds.

Hampton Mhlanga, Telone managing director, said tremendous demands from the corporate and small and medium enterprise (SME) sectors has prompted the innovation.

“Tel.One has responded to demands from the corporate and SME sectors for a broadband DSL access solution that can carry multimedia data using the same bit-rate in both the downstream and upstream direction. The solution has come in the form of SHDSL,” said Mhlanga.
