Zamtel has completed its connection to two submarine cables - the West Africa Cable System (WACS) and Sat-3 - via Telecoms Namibia.
Mupanga Mwanakatwe, chief executive officer, Zamtel said his company could now potentially deliver 600Mbps of internet capacity to Zambian customers.
The Zamtel fibre network runs from Solwezi, Ndola, Lusaka, Livingstone and Sesheke into Namibia and eventually to the western seaboard international undersea cables.
“We are in discussion with other neighbouring countries for additional connectivity in line with our strategy of multiple entry points,” Mwanakatwe said.
He also said, “We are planning to introduce additional value-added services in the near future.”
Mwanakatwe said Zamtel also plans to increase capacity on its fixed internet broadband ADSL offering to cater for everyone who has a landline at home.
The company plans to grow its fibre metro network to provide cost-effective end solutions to corporate clients such as branch inter-connectivity.
