Airtel Nigeria has appointed Veronica Onoja as Vice President for mobile money. Onoja is tasked with using her experience within East Africa's burgeoning mobile money market to ensure profitable growth for the company.

According to a statement from the company, the appointment is with immediate effect and forms part of efforts to reorganise its commercial operations to accelerate growth, drive efficiency and reclaim market leadership in the highly competitive telecoms sector.

Onoja joined Airtel in 2003 and has held several positions including Key Account Consultant, Distribution Specialist, Distribution Manager, Head of Division, Commercial; Regional Sales Manager, Zonal Business Manager, Sales Operations Director (Airtel Tanzania), and Regional Operations Director.

She attended Harvard Business School, holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Jos and is an Alumnus of Lagos Business School.

Onoja previously served as Airtel's Regional Operations Director for the south region during which she drove the overall business operations. In the company's last financial year the South was identified as the best performing region.

In a related development, Airtel Nigeria also announced the promotion of Muhammad Ibrahim and Oladapo Dosunmu as Regional Operations Directors for the North and South regions.

Former Regional Operations Director (North Region), Wole Abu, would assume the position of Vice President, Indirect Sales, and would be tasked with managing Airtel's strategic partners and its 'Know Your Customers' operations to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.

Airtel's former Regional Operations Director (West Region), Olusina Adegoke, has been reassigned as Regional Operations Director (Lagos Region), while the former Vice President, Airtel Money Operations, Femi Oshinlaja, has been appointed Regional Operations Director (West Region).

The company added that former Regional Operations Director (Lagos Region), Oladokun Oye, has been drafted to the headquarters to head Airtel's Direct Sales Directorate and tasked with driving and improving customer experience and profitability, coupled with growing and developing new direct sales channels.

The company's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Segun Ogunsanya, said the management restructure is in line with the Airtel Nigeria's organisational commitment to continually provide opportunities for its internal talents and that this would help the company consolidate on its gains in the market.
