Nigeria: mobile operators vow to improve service

Nigeria: mobile operators vow to improve services.

Service providers operating in Nigeria's mobile space have assured the country's telecommunications industry regulator, The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and consumers that there will be an improvement in services.

A report by ThisDayLive said that executives from MTN, Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat and Visaphone were represented at the 76th Telecoms Consumer Parliament, organised by the NCC in Lagos over the weekend.

Wale Goodluck, MTN Corporate Service Executive, was quoted in the report as saying, "As service providers, we want to say that NCC has a great role to play and I am glad they are living up to expectations. We will definitely begin to see improvement in our services soon."

Ibe Nwandu, Consumer Manager at Airtel, referred to the issue of unsolicited text messages and is said to have warned customers of the need to use smartphones correctly. " Some of these smartphones that customers are purchasing are actually working against them if not properly used. You should switch off data that you do not want to use so as to prevent depletion (of) your funds," according to ThisDayLive.

The publication also added that Dr. Eugene Juwah, Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, voiced the concern of the Commission over the level of service provided to consumers, and that despite progress , the country "has not achieved the required global standard."
