MTN group chief operating executive reportedly replaces Imogen Mkhize on the telco’s board.

Former Swazi MTN chief executive officer, Themba Khumalo has reportedly returned to the kingdom’s sole mobile telecommunications operator as its board member.

According to the Swazi Times, he joins the board together with Her Royal Highness Princess Sikhanyiso, whose nomination was reportedly revealed by the Times newspaper in June this year.

The two are the new members of the board, and their appointment was reportedly formally announced to the other members during a meeting towards the end of last month.

Khumalo, who recently scooped the top position of MTN group chief operating executive, replaces Imogen Mkhize in the Swazi MTN Board.

He has joined the board to represent MTN International – a 30% shareholder of Swazi MTN.

Khumalo joined MTN when it was launched in South Africa in 1994 and has served as chief executive for MTN Swaziland, Rwanda and Uganda.

As MTN’s operations executive, Khumalo is responsible for managing MTN operations in 13 countries, including Afghanistan, Benin, Botswana, Congo Brazzaville, Cyprus, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Rwanda, Sudan, Swaziland, Yemen and Zambia.
