Many tech companies in Zimbabwe are ‘faltering’ because they are not offering more focused services, according to statements from the country’s deputy prime minister, Arthur Mutambara.
“Companies should focus on a few products and be known for those products and services that they offer to the best of their ability.
“You can never be everything to everyone. Focus on that which you think you will be ahead of everyone,” Mutambara said.
“Even Bill Gates focused on one thing. Only [Steve] Jobs changed the computer, mobile telephony music, movies and education,” he said, referring to the likes of the Apple iPad and iPhone, which can view various multimedia. Mutambara also appeared to allude to Jobs' film company venture, Pixar.
Mutambara further went on to say that Zimbabwean technology companies should have a pan-African focus.
“If you cannot measure it you cannot manage it. Local companies should also know that their future is in the region.
"If you are a serious company you should have a regional strategy,” Mutambara said.
